Kenya Windrush – SL28 & SL34 Peaberry | Future Classic No. 29

Bright, vibrant and layered.

Why we love it:
This is the kind of Kenyan profile you never get tired of drinking. It’s easy and deeply enjoyable, with no sharp spikes in acidity, perfectly balanced while keeping the origin’s character intact. Beyond being classic, it reveals delicate aromatics that aren’t commonly found in Kenyan coffees, adding an extra layer of charm to an already timeless profile.

the coffee, but for nerds

Windrush Estate is located in the heart of Kiambu County at the foot of the Aberdare Ranges. Established in 1902, the estate began focusing on coffee production in 1930 and was acquired by Gatatha Farmers Co. Ltd. in 1971, which has managed it ever since. The estate's sister property is Yara Estate. Coffee is grown at elevations of 1,800–2,000 metres in deep, red, nutrient-rich volcanic soils, creating ideal conditions for producing high-quality coffee. Harvesting takes place from November to January, with the estate cultivating the renowned SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties. Both fully washed and natural processing methods are produced.
At harvest, only selectively handpicked ripe cherries are delivered to the wet mill, where they undergo an additional round of careful hand sorting before being processed through a disc pulper. The pulped parchment is fermented for 12–14 hours, depending on ambient temperatures, allowing the mucilage to break down naturally before being thoroughly washed with fresh water sourced from nearby rivers or the estate's own water dam. The coffee is then dried slowly on raised African drying beds for approximately 14–21 days, with shade nets used as needed to regulate exposure to heat and sunlight.
